When Kirk had kissed him the night before, Sulu had been sure it was something the captain would end up calling a drunken mistake. Not that Sulu would have minded; it had been a really nice kiss, mistake or not.
Of course he isn't about to complain about being wrong. He hadn't lied when he'd told Kirk it had been quite awhile since he'd been kissed last, and getting the opportunity to break his dry spell with someone he trusts and admires as much as he does Kirk is nothing short of miraculous.
It doesn't hurt that Kirk is extremely easy on the eyes either.
So he's not nervous so much as excited as he stands at the door to Kirk's quarters. At least the captain already knows how eager he is for this to happen, and he won't be surprised by Sulu's zeal. Taking a breath, he reaches out and triggers the door chime, every nerve in him buzzing with anticipation.
