Sulu can't help the little flash of jealousy he feels when Chekov mentions drinking with Scotty, but he quickly adminoshes himself. Chekov had the right to spend time with anyone he wanted.
It helped that Chekov said he wanted to know more about Japan, and all because of his friendship with Sulu. "I can try to tell you anything you want to know," he said. "I've only been a few times, but my parents and my obaasan were born there."
He paused then, taking a heavy swallow of his vodka. "You should tell me more about Russia too. I want to know everything about you," he said, then he lowered his eyes, his face going a little hot again, embarrassed by his eagerness.
